MILWAUKEE KEY MAGAZINE Milwaukee is unique in the way it blends the old and the new. Historic buildings stand alongside new structures, traditional ethnic restaurants continue to thrive beside new establishments led by some of nation's best-known chefs. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline each summer, festivals celebrate the sounds, sights. sounds and cuisine of the city’s diverse ethnic groups and Summerfest – the world's largest music festival – brings in the all of today's sounds. With the city's ethnic heritage has come a love for the arts. Milwaukee boasts a professional ballet company, symphony orchestra, opera company and several nationally recognized acting companies. At the top of the arts community is the internationally acclaimed addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and the city's symbol. Other top attractions include the historic Milwaukee Public Museum, a system of county parks featuring exceptional golf courses and botanical gardens, a lakefront dedicated to public usage, a nationally recognized zoo, a children's museum, a Public Market and the new Pier Wisconsin facility with its interactive exhibits, aquariums and a Great Lakes sailing vessel. Currently under construction is a downtown museum telling the story of one of Milwaukee's most famous products, Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Served by freeways, Amtrak, an international airport and a high-speed ferry from Michigan, today's Milwaukee merits many return visits.
